WATCH: Crist Backs Recreational Pot Use in Florida

18 states across the country have now legalized the use of recreational marijuana, but Florida is still not among them.

Congressman Charlie Crist says if he's elected governor, he'll work to change that. In a podcast from Suncoast NORML, Crist said it's time for Florida to move into the 21st century. "I think we need to legalize it, recreationally," Crist said, "and I think we need to expunge the records of those who've been unfairly punished, which is predominately people of color, black and brown, in our state."

"Florida needs to come into the 21st century," Crist said. "After all, it's 2022, not 1952."

The Democratic gubernatorial candidate is also backing legalization of home-grown pot. "If you can brew your own beer," Crist said, "you ought to be able to grow your own weed."

Crist isn't the only Democratic candidate looking to legalize pot for recreational use. Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has said it's one of the first things she would do if elected.
