Man detained for hanging Pro-Choice banner from South Florida overpass

Miami, FL - A man was detained by police after hanging a Pro-Choice banner from a South Florida overpass on Saturday.

Miami police detained Caleb Freestone, a member of an organization called Whatever It Takes 2022, after Freestone hung a pro-choice banner from a Miami overpass on Saturday.

The banner, which read 'S.O.S. Biden They Won’t Stop at Roe," was hung by Freestone after he climbed a metal beam structure near Northwest 3rd Court during a protest of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade organized by Bans Off Miami.

Freestone was placed in handcuffs by the Miami Police Department when he climbed down the structure.

Miami Police says Freestone was detained, but not arrested, and is not facing charges.

Freestone spoke with NBC Miami after being released by authorities, telling the outlet “they say to vote, that’s their solution. Well, I’m not going to standby until November. It’s a long time, there’s a lot of work to be done between now and then. It doesn’t require these skills, it does not require this level of risk, it does not require a significant level of participation. Everyone has the ability to contribute to a movement.”
