School Boundary Lines Could Be Moved In Broward

The Broward School Board could decide tonight whether to relocate at least 350 soon-to-be high school students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland to Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs. It's all in an effort to reduce overcrowding, but there is some controversy. Nearly 30 percent of the affected students, who live by Wiles Road on the north, Royal Palm Boulevard on the south, University Drive on the east and Coral Springs Drive on the west, are black. Half eligible for free and reduced lunches. If the boundary lines are approved, the MSD Black student population would go from 12.5-to-10.8-percent. MSD is an A-rated school, Coral Glades has a C-rating.
