The Broward Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning about scammers who are calling families of people recently arrested and are impersonating deputies, sergeants or pre-trial specialists.
Officer Miranda Grossman says information is readily available.
"Arrest info is pretty public, and it's public right away, hours after an arrest. So anyone can really get on and find that information. And you know, everything is just one Google or Internet search away," said Grossman.
Grossman adds while these crooks try to pressure victims into sending money electronically for bail, bond or ankle monitors, know law enforcement won't ask for money over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up, call the BSO directly and report the scam attempt.
