Some of Palm Beach County's parks may soon get safer.
The budget that county commissioners have given tentative approval to this week includes more money for off-duty deputies patrolling in parks.
Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Director Eric Call requested to triple the current $150,000 in funding for placing those deputies at parks where and when needed. John Prince Park in Lake Worth would be one place where more patrols would likely be added.
The Parks & Recreation Department has a team of Park Rangers, but they have no authority to arrest or issue citations.
The budget, which still needs final approval, keeps the property tax rate the same, but values went up, so tax bills will do the same.
