Even when you live in safe communities, there are steps you should take to protect your family and your belongings. That's the word from North Palm Beach Police Chief Rick Jenkins.
'When we live in safe communities, we tend to think it's okay to leave our homes and our cars unlocked and leave loaded guns and other valuables in plain sight in our cars or in our homes, don't set alarms. Sometimes we leave our keys in our cars and we're astonished when our cars are stolen."
The chief says that while he's pro second amendment, the idea of guns left in vehicles is extremely troubling.
"It is organized criminals that do automobile burglaries and when you're handing them a gun, especially a loaded gun, you're helping them victimize their next victim."
