The roadways of one local city could soon get safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The Delray Beach Police Department is applying for a state grant to place officers at the most dangerous intersections, which would include Linton Boulevard and Congress Avenue, which saw 48 accidents involving cars hitting people on bikes or walking across the street in the last year. Two of those incidents were fatal.
The Department of Transportation grant is available through a program that encourages cities to place officers at intersections so drivers see them, slow down and obey signs for pedestrians and bikes.
The amount of the grant, if awarded, is $65,000.
