Martin County Sheriff's Office Joins Together To Help Single Mom & 3 Kids

For "Protecting the Palm Beaches" we honor the Martin County Sheriff's Office for a group effort in helping single mom Amalia and her three small boys who showed up at the Indiantown library during a rainstorm.  They were hungry and soaking wet.

Lieutenant Linda Miller discovered that the family was renting one room of a house, where they were not permitted to use the kitchen.

Sheriff's officials say Amalia was working in landscaping, and tried to provide for the children.

Lieutenant Miller contacted the State Housing Initiatives Partnership program, which found the family an apartment and paid their deposit.  Deputies pitched in to provide clothing, food and gift cards to help the family become independent.

The Martin County Habitat for Humanity affiliate donated $600 worth of furniture and a number of Sheriff's Office employees donated household items.

Several deputies helped move the family into their new place.
