LISTEN: Where Did PBC Grow The Most Jobs?

People have been getting back to work in Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, which has released its jobs numbers for July.

The local unemployment rate was down 8 tenths of a percent from a year ago.

"We're also seeing private sector job growth is strong.  Out of the top 5 metro areas across the state in July 2017, the West Palm Beach area is in the top 5.  So, number 5 after Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami, with gains of over 18,000 new jobs."

DEO Executive Director Cissy Proctor tells us that it's been a strong year for the "leisure and hospitality" industries, which also shows up when we look at the tourism numbers, which have been setting record after record.

There were other sectors that performed well in Palm Beach County too.

"In your area, you also saw strong gains in education and health services, which is important as well.  You had some strong growth in some diverse industries."

Proctor says over 1.4 million jobs have been created around the state since Governor Rick Scott took office.
