Latest: Charter School Principal May Have Way To Stop Pot Dispensary

Marijuana Cultivation Center In Nevada Ramps Up Production As State Legalizes Recreation Use Of Weed

The principal of a charter school in Lake Worth believes she has found a way to stop a medical marijuana dispensary from opening right across the street.

Modern Health Concepts is expected to open within 200 feet of the Academy for Positive Learning on North Dixie Highway, where Principal Renatta Espinoza is concerned about it attracting criminal activity because it will be an all-cash business since marijuana is illegal on the federal level.

Under a new state law, these types of business cannot be within 500 feet of a school, but the city has said Modern Health came to an agreement with Lake Worth before that law went on the books in June. However, Espinoza says the pot dispensary owners haven't done any interior construction work on the site yet, which she thinks could work as a loophole to the law.  It's something that could wind up in court.

The principal says she'll know more by the end of the week on whether this information can keep the dispensary from ever opening.
