Riviera Beach Police Officer Fired For Leaving Police-Issued Guns In Car

Police Gun

We've heard from police officials across Palm Beach County, urging residents not to keep their guns in their cars with their doors unlocked and that's exactly what a Riviera Beach Police officer is accused of doing.

Mark Moriello has been fired, after two of his guns wound up on the street.

According to an Internal Affairs investigation, in January, Officer Moriello left his police-issued firearms in his personal car, which was unlocked.  Someone stole the guns and Moriello didn't notice they were gone for at least three days.

Police Chief Clarence Williams was quoted in the report as saying "The employee's inattention to duty is reckless and irresponsible.”

The officer was fired for violating department policy including neglect of duty and careless handling of equipment resulting in loss.
