Florida Rep. Wants To Ban Purchase Of Soda With Food Stamps

Coca Cola To Cut 1200 Corporate Jobs As Earnings Slump Continues

A Florida legislator has introduced a bill that would ban the use of food stamps on soda.

Republican State Representative Ralph Massullo is a surgeon, in District 34, which covers Citrus County, on Florida's northwest coast.

Under his proposal, anyone who receives assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, would not be able to use the program to purchase sugary soft drinks, considering them junk food.

The bill would go into law in July if approved by the Florida Legislature during next year's session.
