The Palm Beach County Commission has set its 2018 legislative agenda and it includes a proposal to add a needle exchange program for residents addicted to opioids.
Commissioners will ask the state to expand a pilot needle exchange program that's going on in Miami-Dade County. Vice Mayor Melissa McKinlay says Palm Beach County has more overdose deaths than the Miami-Dade and she wants to reduce the risk of addicts spreading diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C by sharing needles.
Health officials say they haven't seen an increase in those disease related to the opioid crisis.
