PBC's 3 Democratic Congressmen Want Special Session On Confederate Statues

Palm Beach County's three Democrats in the U.S. House are joining Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman- Schultz in her attempts to have state legislators hold a special session to get rid of a Confederate statue that represents Florida at the U.S. Capitol.

Representatives Ted Deutch, Lois Frankel and Alcee Hastings have signed on to a letter Wasserman-Schultz sent to the Governor, House Speaker and Senate President, seeking to speed up the replacement of the statue of Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith with something else.

Governor Scott signed a bill last year that calls for the statue to be replaced, but the Legislature hasn't settled on another figure to honor in Smith's place.

All of Florida's Democratic Congressmen are on board with the proposal to have our state's senators and house members hold a special session while they're in Tallahassee for committee hearings next month.

The governor has said that the issue can be handled during the regular session next year.
