Delray Beach SWAT Standoff With Elderly Man

A five-hour long SWAT standoff involving an 81-year old man in Delray Beach ended peacefully.

Police say Raymond Orr, who is believed to suffer from Dementia, fired two shots at a car with nobody inside Tuesday morning at the Lake Delray Apartments.  When officers arrived, he refused to come out of his apartment and the SWAT team was brought in.

Negotiators tried by phone unsuccessfully to convince Orr to surrender.  Boca Raton police eventually brought their SWAT team vehicle out and used a PA system to talk to the man and he eventually walked out of his unit with no weapon.

Orr was taken in for a psychiatric evaluation.
