The brother of the man accused of opening fire on a crowd of concertgoers in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a Florida resident.
Eric Paddock lives in Orlando and has given a statement to police, saying he is completely "dumbfounded" and "can't understand what happened."
Cops say his brother, 64-year old Stephen Paddock, killed himself before police burst into the hotel room at the Mandalay Bay casino on the Vegas strip. It was from that room on the 32nd floor where Paddock fired shots from several rifles to the crowd below as Jason Aldean was performing.
Records show the suspect once owned property in Melbourne, buying a house there in 2013 and selling it two years later. He was living about an hour away from Las Vegas at the time of the tragedy.
Police say they have taken into custody a person of interest, described as his companion, Mary Lou Danley. The Sheriff says she was out of the country when she was brought in for questioning.
This event is now the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history and the deadliest incident on U.S. soil since 9-11.
