The preliminary estimate of agricultural losses in Florida due to Hurricane Irma has been released: $2.5 billion.
The Citrus Industry lost more than $760 million worth of destroyed fruit and damaged groves. There was another $625 million worth of losses at greenhouses and nurseries.
Number three on the list: the sugar industry with $382 million of damage. That's followed by forestry, cattle, fruits and vegetables, field crops and dairy.
State Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says the dollar amount lost is likely to increase as they account for loss of future production and the cost to rebuild infrastructure.
