Florida drivers could soon have the chance to drive on the Tom Petty Memorial Highway.
State Senator Keith Perry of Alachua County has filed a bill to honor the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and Gainesville native by renaming a stretch of Highway 441, that runs along the campus of the University of Florida.
Petty mentioned that roadway in his 1976 hit "American Girl."
He died October 2 at the age of 66.
