Former Florida Congresswoman Corrine Brown has been sentenced to five years in prison for fraud and other charges related to a purported charity for poor students, which she used as a personal slush fund.
The Democrat appeared in a Jacisonville courtroom Monday.
The 71-year old will have to turn herself in on January 8 to begin her term.
Brown was convicted by a federal jury back in May on 18 charges which included fraud and lying on her tax returns.
She was one of the first black members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida.
