Confirmation: Local Boy Died From The Flu

Preliminary tests from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office confirms that 12-year old Dylan Winnik of suburban West Palm Beach did, in fact, die from Influenza B.

The child passed away suddenly last week, just a few days after first suffering from what his family thought was a cold, even attending Okeeheelee Middle School Last Monday, with a fever.

Dylan was a seventh grader and parents of students at the school are concerned. The school district and health officials last week stressed that there is no flu outbreak at Okeeheelee.

Meanwhile, the Palm Beach County School District this morning launched an online education campaign called “Teach the Flu a Lesson.” It offers parents things they can do daily to help prevent the flu from spreading.
