Lake Worth business owner Sarah Malega is running to unseat a five-term City Commissioner in the District 1 race next month.
She tells us that she had given Scott Maxwell one more term two years ago to fix some issues, after residents urged her to run. She says those issues weren't fixed and this next term will be for three years.
"District 1 is still not up to par where it needs to be in regards to crime, economical stimulation, home values and I'm doing it because the community asked me to."
Getting residents from both the east and west sections of the city to come together is something she wants to achieve.
"I live on the west side of Dixie (Highway), which is predominately a very diverse community. And getting folks to come past South H and South G Streets to patronize the restaurants that are of Latin culture or to patronize the stores, and to engage, has been a little bit of an uphill battle."
Malega owns the Zoo Gym downtown. Hear how she says her businesses experience can be put to good use.
This race is open to all voters in Lake Worth.
