A memorial is being held Thursday for Palm Beach County Sheriff's K-9 Cigo, who was shot dead on Christmas Eve outside the Mall at Wellington Green by a suspect being arrested for a previous attempted murder.
3-year old Cigo was the first K-9 with the Sheriff's Office to be killed in the line of duty.
The event will be held at the Coral Sky Amphitheater at 10 a.m. and it's open to the public.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says the service will be very similar to the ones given to human members of law enforcement who are killed in the line of duty.
The memorial will feature the singing of the national anthem, speeches, prayers and a fly-over. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw will provide opening and closing remarks. It will last about 45 minutes and food will be served.
There is room for about 20,000 people at the amphitheater so the sheriff's office urges anyone who wants to and can attend to do so.
