Santaluces Coach Was Subject Of Rumors Before Arrest For Texts With Student

We're learning that three years before an assistant girls' basketball coach at Santaluces High School was arrested for an alleged inappropriate relationship with an underage student, there were rumors involving Michael Cohen and another student.

Cohen was arrested at a basketball game on a sex offense charge this week after text messages were discovered from December 2017, between the 26-year old and 17-year old girl. Among the messages were pictures and videos of the man naked and one in which he wrote that he couldn't wait until the girl graduated so that he wouldn't have to worry about losing his job.

The Palm Beach Post reports that a year before those messages were sent, there was a rumor on campus that Cohen was involved in a sexual relationship with another student. The school district claims that the rumor could not be substantiated. Cohen was the one who actually notified a school police officer about the rumor.

He did, however, bring up the incident in a text to the girl who is accused of having a relationship with, writing "She just wanted to be cool because I guess sleeping with me is an accomplishment."

Police say that Cohen has admitted to sending the messages and to kissing the girl while driving her home.

Cohen was hired by the district back in 2015 as a behavioral and special needs assistant. He is out of jail after posting bail and ordered to stay away from the school and any minors.
