County-By-County Closures Ahead Of Subtropical Storm Nicole

As Tropical Storm Nicole approaches Florida, businesses in our area are making preparations. Refer to this article to stay up to date on the latest closures county-by-county.

Tri-Rail service will be suspended on Wednesday. The last northbound train (P630) will depart Miami Airport at 3:10 p.m. and arrive at Mangonia Park at 5:10 p.m. The last southbound (P637) will depart Mangonia Park at 4:25 p.m. and arrive at Miami Airport at 6:27 p.m. Service will remain suspended on Thursday and trains are expected to run again on Friday.

Brightline will operate a modified schedule on Wednesday. Final departure southbound from West Palm Beach will be at 2:48 p.m., and final departure northbound from Miami will be at 4:48 p.m. In Palm Beach County, private rides (Teslas) to continue until train service ends, but no shared shuttles or electric golf cart rides on Wednesday.

Palm Beach County

  • Palm Beach International Airport will cease commercial airline operations on Wednesday around 9 a.m.
  • Schools and district offices closed Wednesday and Thursday BUT all athletic practices and competitions for middle schools and high schools are canceled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • County offices closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Florida Atlantic University: All campuses suspending operations Wednesday and Thursday. All classes, including online classes, canceled. Employees who work remotely should continue on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Lynn University: No in-person classes Wednesday and Thursday. Students are expected to continue their coursework via Canvas. Final assignment deadlines for Session C extended to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • Courts of the 15th Judicial Circuit closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in recognition of Veterans Day.
  • Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County closed Wednesday: No garbage, recyclables, yard waste or bulk waste collection, and no onsite drop-offs until after the storm passes. Decision on Thursday to be made Wednesday afternoon. The SWA Greenway Trail system closed until further notice.
  • Waste Management: All collection services suspended Wednesday. Click here for more info.
  • Palm Tran: No service interruptions Tuesday. Transit services free to support access to the polls for Election Day. Service to be suspended at noon Wednesday. That includes Palm Tran Connection and the Go Glades service.
  • Health Care District of Palm Beach County: District offices, all C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics and pharmacies closed Wednesday and Thursday. Also closed Friday for Veterans Day. Clinic patients can request virtual visits by calling 561-642-1000. Belle Glade Hospital, Lakeside Medical Center, Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation Center, ground ambulance and Trauma Hawk aeromedical programs remain operational per their procedures.
  • Palm Palm Beach State College: All campuses closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Israel Philharmonic performance at Kravis Center canceled Wednesday.
  • CareerSource facilities closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • All county-operated parks, beaches and recreational facilities closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • West Palm Beach Sanitation Division: No collection of solid waste (commercial, residential), recycling, yard, and bulk waste Wednesday.
  • Boca Raton: All city facilities, beaches and parks closed Wednesday. But, the City Clerk's Office in City Hall will be open with limited staff Wednesday until 5 p.m.
  • Riviera Beach: Wednesday: No CRA Meeting, City Council meeting, Solid Waste services, computer class at library. Library's Crafternoon postponed to Nov. 16 at 4. Thursday: No CareerSource visit to library. Police Substation opening postponed. Wednesday and Thursday: Municipal Beach, recreational and leisure services closed. More information: Call 888-697-4843. Mandatory evacuations 7 a.m. Wednesday: Zone A mobile homes, and Zone B all of Singer Island. Nobody will be permitted onto the island without proof of residency and/or employment.
  • Town of Palm Beach: Town Hall, Main Beach, and Phipps Ocean Parks closed to the public Wednesday until further notice. Also closed Wednesday: Palm Beach Par 3 and the Al Fresco restaurant, Phipps Ocean Park and Seaview Park Tennis Centers, and the Mandel Recreation Center.
  • Town of Lake Park: All town offices including Town Hall, the Lake Park Public Library, the Lake Park Harbor Marina and the Lake Park Public Works Department closed Wednesday and Thursday. Offices will also be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Town of Jupiter: Town Hall, Community Center, Jupiter Community Park, Cinquez Park, and Abacoa Community Park closed Wednesday and Thursday. Non-essential services suspended. All Jupiter parks, athletic fields and facilities closed. The Jupiter Police Department will continue patrols, unless weather conditions necessitate, and will be available to answer emergency calls.
  • All City of Greenacres administrative offices and parks will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • St. Mark's Episcopal School, Palm Beach Gardens, closed Wednesday and Thursday. Saturday's Cornerstone Scholarship Veterans Day Breakfast to be rescheduled.
  • Lake Worth Beach: William Lockhart Pier, City Library, Golf Course, City Hall, City Hall Annex, 1900 2nd Ave. offices, Leisure Services office, Parking Division office, PBSO District 14 Headquarters, and Lake Worth Beach Complex (including all shops and restaurants) all closed Wednesday. Commercial refuse and recycling collection canceled Wednesday. City Commission pre-Agenda Meeting, recreation sports practices, and Club Create all canceled.
  • Delray Beach: Garbage, recycling, bulk, and trash collection services suspended Wednesday. The Delray Beach Golf Club, Lakeview Golf Course, Delray Beach Tennis Center, and Delray Swim & Tennis closed Wednesday. Freebee service suspended Wednesday. Wednesday's Site Plan Review and Approval Board Meeting canceled. Veterans Day Ceremony canceled.
  • Boca Raton Christian School closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Martin County

  • Schools closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. After-school activities canceled. Extended Day closed. Friday was already scheduled as the Veterans Day holiday.
  • County Commission offices closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Library System branches closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • All county parks, programs and facilities closed Wednesday and Thursday. All county beaches unguarded until further notice.
  • Property Appraiser's Office, Clerk of Court and Comptroller, and 19th Judicial Circuit: Closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Department of Health in Martin County closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • The Hobe Sound Bascule Bridge is locked-down, closed to marine traffic. Bridge anticipated to reopen Friday 1 p.m. The closure does not impact vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  • Friday's Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony at Memorial Park canceled.
  • Waste Management suspending collection service at noon Wednesday. None on Thursday. Wednesday yard waste customers not serviced by noon should remove material/containers from curb and properly secure. Collection will be the following Wednesday. Thursday customers will be serviced on Friday, and Friday customers on Saturday.
  • Hobe Sound NAC meeting, previously scheduled for Wednesday canceled.
  • MPO Hobe Sound North Corridor Open House, previously scheduled for Wednesday canceled.
  • Youth Dialogue Day, previously scheduled for Wednesday canceled.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County (Indiantown, Hobe Sound, Stuart and Palm City) closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • City of Stuart offices closed Wednesday and Thursday, and will remain closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. Thursday's Local Planning Agency meeting canceled.

St. Lucie County

  • Schools closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Beaches close 5 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Tax Collector closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Department of Health in St. Lucie County closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Board of County Commissioners’ offices, including libraries and attractions, closed Wednesday and Thursday. County offices closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Area Regional Transit bus service to continue normal operations until noon Wednesday, weather permitting. Paratransit services to run dialysis trips only Wednesday, weather permitting. All other paratransit services suspended. Advantage Ride service will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • All St. Lucie County beaches closing 5 p.m. Tuesday. No lifeguards present. Beachgoers should use extreme caution when entering the ocean as heavy surf and rip currents will continue for several days. Sea turtle nests with exposed eggs should be left alone.   • All unincorporated county garbage/yard waste subscription collection services suspended Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Recycling collection services suspended Wednesday until Monday to focus on post-storm garbage and yard waste collection.
  • St. Lucie County Landfill and Waste Pro to continue normal operations as long as weather permits.
  • Fort Pierce Utilities Authority lobby closed 3 p.m. Tuesday; closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. FPUA’s emergency number is 772-466-7703.
  • Fort Pierce city offices, Board of County Commissioners offices, libraries, attractions and police department closed Wednesday and Thursday, and will remain closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • St. Lucie County public information line: 772-460-4357, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this week.

Indian River County

  • Schools closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday BUT extracurricular activities closed Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Indian River State College closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All classes (including online) and all campus events canceled.
  • Board of County Commissioners closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • GoLine/Community Coach running until 1 p.m. Wednesday, closed Thursday, open Friday.
  • All recreational facilities and beaches closed Wednesday and Thursday. Guarded beach parks (Golden Sands, Wabasso, Tracking Station and Round Island) open Friday as conditions permit.
  • 19th Circuit Court closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Health Department closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Sheriff’s Office closed Wednesday and Thursday for storm; closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled for Friday canceled.
  • The Source, a Christian Outreach Ministry, closing Wednesday morning until further notice. No Dignity Buses until further notice.
  • The citizen information line, at 772-226-4000, will be staffed 24 hours/day for the duration of the storm event for questions or concerns.

Okeechobee County

  • Closed Wednesday and Thursday (and many previously scheduled to be closed Friday for Veterans Day): Schools, County Offices (except during the Board of County Commissioners meeting at Historic Courthouse 8:30 a.m. Wednesday), city of Okeechobee offices, Judicial Center (courthouse), Sheriff's Office administration offices, Department of Health, Indian River State College, Disaster Recovery Center at the Okeechobee Library, county parks (beginning 2 p.m. Tuesday), county library (beginning 4 p.m. Tuesday). The Florida Department of Transportation started locking down state drawbridges in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. They'll be closed to marine navigation and remain closed until they can be assessed for damage after the storm. Bridges will remain open to vehicular traffic.

South Florida Water Management District temporarily closing its navigational locks to public access at the end of Tuesday regular operating hours. Reopening expected as conditions warrant after the storm passes. Thursday's Governing Board Meeting postponed to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.
