Report: Mississippi Lawmaker Punched His Wife In The Face Over Sex

Doug McLeod

Lawmakers in Mississippi are calling on Republican state Rep. Doug McLeod to resign if allegations that he punched his wife in the face are true. McLeod was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence after he allegedly hit his wife because he wanted to have sex and felt that she was taking too long to undress.

According to Sun Herald, McLeod was intoxicated and holding a glass of alcohol when officers arrived. The responding officers went inside and saw that McLeod's wife and another woman were visibly frightened at the top of the stairs.

McLeod's wife told the officers that he "just snapped" and punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed. They noted that there was blood on the floor and on the couple's bed. She refused to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and promised the deputies that her daughter would take her so she could have her injuries checked out.

McLeod was taken into custody on a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence. He was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond.

Republican House Speaker Philip Gunn has called on McLeod to resign if the allegations are true.

"I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true," Gunn said in a statement. "These actions are unacceptable for anyone."
