U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis took hits on a national level yesterday after saying on Fox News early in the day that "The last thing we need to do is monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda." Many Democrats, including DeSantis’ competitor in Florida governor’s race Andrew Gillum, said the comments were meant as a “dog whistle” or even a “bull horn” for racist voters. Gillum would be Florida’s first black governor if elected in November. The DeSantis campaign quickly responded by saying the comments were quote "obviously talking about not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses."
Last night, DeSantis went on “Hannity” on Fox News to say that the comments had “zero to do with race.”
Meanwhile, Palm Beach County U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel joined the chorus of Democrats attacking DeSantis yesterday.

Among those who are defending Congressman DeSantis was the Black Republican Caucus of Florida. The organization put out a statement last night that says they are proud to endorse DeSantis for governor and condemns all racist accusations being quote "fabricated by democrats and liberal media who have attempted to demonize Congressman DeSantis in misrepresenting his comments to portray something that they are not."
The chairman, Sean Jackson, said he has personally known DeSantis for many years and it sickens him to see “how the left is attempting to paint him as something that he is not.”
