An arrest has been made after a body found in Costa Rica has been identified as a South Florida woman who went missing while on vacation last week.
Carla Stefaniak was in that country to celebrate her 36th birthday when she disappeared just hours before she was scheduled to board a plane to head back to Hallandale.
Investigators say a body found partially buried near the Airbnb where the woman was staying was in fact that of Carla and the cause of death was head trauma.
A security guard, 32-year old Bismarck Martinez, has been arrested in her death after he gave conflicting statements to police. Blood had been found in the apartment Stefaniak was renting.
Cops say the woman had already checked in for her flight via a cell phone app with the airline before she went missing.
