South Florida Man In Court On Airplane Sabotage Charge

An airline mechanic is due in court today after allegedly trying to sabotage a plane out of Miami International Airport.

Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani was arrested yesterday on suspicion of disabling a navigation system on a plane two months ago.

He was a mechanic for American Airlines, and he reportedly claimed he was upset about contract negotiations.

According to court documents, he didn't want to cause harm. Instead, he was apparently hurting financially because of an ongoing contract dispute and hoped sabotaging the plane would lead to overtime work.

The pilot aborted the flight when alarms went off, and no one was hurt.
