Ellen DeGeneres Speaks Out About Her Friendship With George W. Bush

Obama Honors 21 Americans With Presidential Medal Of Freedom

Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has responded to critics on social media who attacked her for sitting next to former President George W. Bush.

Pictures of Ellen and Bush talking and laughing during the Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday went viral with people questioning why she would chat it up with the Republican.

DeGeneres, on her show this week, said people thought “Why is this gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?” The host said she’s friends with Bush, and a lot of other people who don’t share her beliefs.

The former president appreciates how Ellen handled the criticism. A Bush family spokesman says that George W. Bush and his wife Laura enjoyed being with Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi and appreciated her comments about respecting one another.
