President Trump's approval & our view of the direction of the country
Bottom Line: This is a weekly story to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President and our view of the direction of the country. First here's the high point, low point and current ratings for President Trump...
- Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval and 59% disapproval: -22% (8/4/17)
- Trump highest approval ratings 45% approval and 43% disapproval (1/27/17): +2%
- Trump's current ratings: 44% approval and 52% disapproval: -8%
President Trump’s net approval improved another point over a week ago which is endemic of general improvement for Republicans in the wake of the Kavanaugh confirmation. As I cited on Monday, by a slight margin, most Americans believed Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed at the end of the process and the SCOTUS had become the top issue nationally. We’ve seen that impact races across the country, including our Senate race in Florida over the past week. As has been the case for almost his entire presidency, Trump’s approval rating is highest with the more engaged/informed politically.
- With adult only samples his rating over the past week averaged: 43%
- Registered voters: 43%
- Likely voters: 46%
For comparison's sake President Obama's average approval rating on this date in his second year in office was one point higher than President Trump's rating but with likely voters it was two points lower than President Trump’s.
Looking at the direction of the country this week...
Where we stood on Inauguration Day:
- Right Direction: 30%
- Wrong Track: 59%
- Net: -29%
Today:
- Right Direction: 39%
- Wrong Track: 55%
- Net: -16%
Change: +13% under Trump & +1% over a week ago
The two-week nose dive in our view of our country ended this week – likely not a coincidence of the Kavanaugh confirmation putting an end to the bitter process that was perpetuated by leftists and allies in media.
Until next week...
