Police drones are closer to reality in Florida
Bottom Line: Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is still going to have to wait a minimum of another two years before his dream of drone deliveries has a chance of becoming reality (the feds are scheduled to consider the prospect of drone delivery next year) but police departments in Florida might be flying them around South Florida later this year.
Florida’s House committee, considering police drone use, passed the bill out of committee sending the proposal to a full vote. The proposal would allow law enforcement to use drones in public spaces for surveillance. Currently every police organization in the state that’s expressed an opinion has been supportive of the bill, while the ACLU has been fighting it. In the first of four potential rounds, it’s the police 1 and the ACLU zero.
