The real political story? President Trump's ratings and how they compare to Pelosi & Schumer

Bottom Line:This is a weekly story to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President and our view of the direction of the country. First here's the high point, low point and current ratings for President Trump...

  • Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval (8/4/17)
  • Trump highest approval ratings: 45% approval (1/27/17)
  • Trump's current ratings: 44% approval

President Trump’s approval rating is off a point this week after a five-point surge over the prior two weeks. Still, think about that one for a minute with everything his administration has had to put up with – starting before he even took office. With a new AG and rumors swirling that team Muller could wrap up their investigation as early as next week – this represents a poignant moment in President Trump’s administration. He’s near his highest approval ratings already, the economy is kicking butt and taking names, the wall is being built and if he could move on from the disease that is the Muller investigation – who knows what the future holds but it might be so bright he’d need to wear shades.

As has also been the case throughout his term thus far, the more informed and engaged someone is politically – the more likely they are to approve of President Trump.

  • Adult only samples averaged: 41%
  • Registered voters: 43%
  • Likely voters: 49%

If he maintained this rating into the next cycle, he’d be the prohibitive favorite to win re-election. What you never hear reported are the ratings of the Democratic leaders opposing him. Let’s just say they’d need a huge push of support to simply catch President Trump’s approval ratings. Here’s the latest...

  • Pelosi: 36%
  • Schumer: 30%

What does that tell you about what’s really going on in this country? Pelosi is 8 points behind Trump and Schumer is 14. Two sides to stories and one side to facts. It’s just not what you get in the news media.

Also, Looking at the direction of the country this week...

Where we stood on Inauguration Day:

  • Right Direction: 30%

Today:

  • Right Direction: 37%

We're up another point this week. And we’re 7% collectively more optimistic than we were during the Obama administration.
