Bottom Line:The IRS has announced that $1.4 billion in tax refunds are due to 1.2 million people from the tax year 2015, has gone unclaimed, because of unfiled returns. The filing deadline for those returns is this April 15th. If you’re not familiar Florida Treasure Hunt is the state’s home for unclaimed property, and you might be surprised what shows up in your name. About five years ago I found hundreds of dollars due to me through an insurance settlement,years earlier, that I was unaware of. Also, my brother-in-law once had money he was owed and wasn’t aware of. As the site suggests, 20% of Floridians are owed money and don’t realize it and it only takes about 30 seconds to search it (really it doesn’t even take that long).
