Weekly political update - President Trump's ratings post Mueller Report
Bottom Line: This is a weekly story to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President and our view of the direction of the country. First here's the high point, low point and current ratings for President Trump...
- Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval (8/4/17)
- Trump highest approval ratings: 45% approval (1/27/17)
- Trump's current ratings: 44% approval
This is my first update in two weeks and it’s the first clean look at pure post-Mueller polling of the President’s approval. And drum roll...the change in the President’s average approval is up one point. I don’t think there’s a big surprise that’s it’s not larger. Recent polling suggested that 43% of Americans believed in the bogus Trump-Russia collusion narrative before the release of the Mueller Report. However, of that 43%, how many of them were/are open to approving of President Trump independent of the false narrative? In other words, many probably latched onto it because they wanted to and those aren’t people who’re likely to approve of the president anytime soon.
As has also been the case throughout his term thus far, the more informed and engaged someone is politically – the more likely they are to approve of President Trump.
- Adult only samples averaged: 42%
- Registered voters: 43%
- Likely voters: 50%
If he maintained 50% into the next cycle among likely voters, he’d be the prohibitive favorite to win re-election. What you never hear reported are the ratings of the Democratic leaders opposing him. Let’s just say they’d need a huge push of support to simply catch President Trump’s approval ratings. Here’s the latest...
- Pelosi: 37%
- Schumer: 28%
What does that tell you about what’s really going on in this country? Pelosi is seven points behind Trump and Schumer is 16 points behind the president in overall approval. Two sides to stories and one side to facts. It’s just not what you get in the news media. Also, Looking at the direction of the country this week...

We’re up three points over two weeks ago and are 7% collectively more optimistic than we were during the Obama administration.
