Bugs feel pain
Bottom Line: There are several directions I could go with this story but how about this one. If you’ve ever wondered if insects feel pain, first of its kind scientific research demonstrates the answer is yes. If you want to rid yourself of pests, be efficient if you want to be humane. I’ll admit, I’m a wuss when it comes to killing just about anything (except for mosquitoes) those evil blood-suckers deserve whatever comes their way. Maybe this study is the reason why.
The research study conducted in Australia, and published in the journal Science Advances, shows that insects feel pain when injured and have permanent pain side effects from them even after having healed. The tests were done using various insects, creating specific injuries and then running a series of tests to determine what was taking place within the central nervous system. Turns out pain. And as the case may be, insects demonstrate conditions that linger after having healed from injuries not unlike mammals.
Don’t get me wrong this isn’t an effort to compare the two. Just new information that’s compelling to me. This also makes me think that death by spider might be about the worst outcome in the insect realm.
