  • Leon County Circuit court judge Charles Dodson stuck down Florida’s 2011 law that instituted penalties against local officials who might violate Florida’s “preemption law” prohibiting gun control measures taken at the local government level within the state.
  • While responding to an armed robbery at a Boynton Beach Dollar Tree, an officer encountered the suspect approaching a nearby Publix in the Boynton Lakes Plaza and exchanged gunfire killing the suspect. Most businesses including Public closed for the day after the incident.
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife captured a 15-foot alligator that was reportedly chasing swimmers in the mouth of the Cotee River entering the gulf. The trapper said it was the first alligator he’s trapped in the Gulf of Mexico. Florida’s alligator population is now estimated at 1.3 million
  • The mosquito virus EEE has been detected in Orange County. The virus can cause brain swelling which is fatal 30% of the time with those who have severe reactions to the virus (typically those over 50 or under 15)
  • Florida’s population is estimated to exceed 22 million by 2022 with an estimated 300,000 people relocating to our state per year
