- Medical marijuana use prohibits the lawful purchase of a firearm. Jamie Meade in Tampa was notified by his medical marijuana dispensary that he could not legally purchase firearms due to marijuana being a federally illegal product. MaxFlugrath of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services confirmed this as marijuana is still a schedule one drug according to the federal government.
- Florida has led the country in power outages both in number of people impacted and length of time without power. Outages due to hurricanes and tropical storms are the prominent reasons why. Florida passed the measure to mandate the undergrounding of power-lines statewide over the next thirty years in this year’s state session
- AdventHealth won the top spot as Florida’s best hospital according to the annual US News and World Report rankings. The Cleveland Clinic was the top ranked hospital operating in South Florida
- Two TSA agents have been suspended and an investigation opened into them after nooses were found on display in a baggage screening area at Miami International Airport
- The Little Seeds Academy day care facility has been raided and one operator arrested on child pornography charges. It’s not known if any of the children at the academy were victims. Miami-Dade police and Homeland Security officials are investigating
