- The MSD Commission recommended an overhaul of Florida’s mental health evaluation and treatment systems. Most notable was the finding that only 1% of the 200,000 Floridians taken in under the Baker Act received ongoing mental health treatment.
- Another MSD recommendation calls for the expansion of Florida’s law to threaten violence with a firearm. Currently only written threats of violence with a firearm are crimes in Florida. The commission is calling for an expansion of the law to include verbal threats as well.
- AG Ashley Moody has opened a formal investigation into the practices of e-cigs and vaping companies. Like other investigations the focus is whether companies have been intentionally marketing their products to minors and the impact of flavored products. According to the Florida Department of Health e-cig/vaping use rose 58% among high school students year-over-year.
- South Florida is a top destination for Millennial millionaires according to WealthEngine. 92% of Millennial millionaires own property and Florida’s tied for the second most popular destination behind California. Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward counties are the three most popular destinations in Florida.
