- Governor DeSantis announced the first water flow discharged into the C-44 Reservoir Stormwater treatment site. The excess water discharged into this site is water that previously had flowed into the St. Lucie Estuary. It’s the first phase of the bigger Lake O’ and Everglades restoration project aimed at preventing toxic blue-green algae from being discharged into Florida’s waterways.
- Miami’s 11th Circuit Court granted the restoration of voting rights to 18 former felons without consideration for financial restitution as is required under Florida law and is currently being challenged before Florida’s Supreme Court.
- Nine tagged Great White sharks have now been located in Florida’s waters including eight in the past week as the winter migration appears to be in full swing for the whites. It’s believed that white’s mate during the migration.
- A child porn ring bust in central Florida led to the arrests of 17 people including two Disney World employees and former assistant principal.
- Governor DeSantis has declared this week “Florida Recycles Week” aimed at increasing the recycling rate statewide. The state will hold events around the state throughout the week with awards that will be announced on Thursday for leaders in recycling around the state.
