- Florida’s state session is officially underway. Governor DeSantis highlighted six core categories for proposed reforms - the economy, environment, education, healthcare, social programs and insurance reform. Between now and March 13th state legislators will debate the 3,382 proposed bills which must pass both chambers and be signed by the governor to become law. Last year 189 new laws were enacted. The ten-year average is around 200.
- AG Ashley Moody announced Florida’s Statewide Council on Human Trafficking will be replaced by the Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking. It will act as a nonprofit to combat human trafficking. The Alliance will work to implement Florida’s new laws regarding training to combat human trafficking in the hospitality and medical services industries.
- Hollywood’s Police Athletic League ended its affiliation with troubled former NFL receiver Antonio Brown after a live streamed broadcast on Monday that included derogatory conduct towards his ex.
- Make it Legal Florida dropped its bid to attempt to have a proposed constitutional amendment on November’s ballot enabling recreational marijuana in Florida. They were well short of the signatures required and set to miss the February deadlines for qualification this year.
- Florida’s Python Bowl is in full effect. All in 662 people are participating and 18 pythons have been removed as of the most recent report. The competition continues through this Sunday – the 19th.
