- Florida’s Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran declared Common Core educational standards are “over” in Florida. The recent B.E.S.T curriculum is in the process of being rolled out and will be phased in over the next 2.5 years for full implementation projected for the 2022-2023 school year.
- The Nature Conservancy purchased Lake Wimico in Florida’s panhandle with funds from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The lake was highlighted as a priority by the Florida Forever Program as its water impacts the Apalachicola River and Bay. It’s also home to dozens of protected species.
- The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles stated over 105,000 hit-and-run accidents occurred in 2019. In an awareness campaign, they’ve launched to combat the problem, FLHSMV cites Florida law stating it’s a felony to leave the scene of a crash where somebody is hurt or if there is any property damage.
- Saturday in Jacksonville, a male in his twenties targeted a Republican voter registration drive by driving his vehicle into the tent being manned by six volunteers. After ramming the tent, he took video of the damage, flipped off the volunteers and drove off. Florida's Senators sounded off:Thanking God that no one was injured in today's politically motivated attack against @DuvalGOP volunteers today.- Marco Rubio. This appears to be a politically-motivated attack on hard-working volunteers in Duval County. Thankful that no one was hurt. @DuvalGOP will not be silenced or intimidated.- Rick Scott. Yesterday – 27-year-old Gregory Timm was arrested for carrying out the attack.
