- On Friday Governor DeSantis signed into law legislation that prevents HOA’s or local governments from preventing law enforcement vehicles in neighborhoods. While there were occasionally issues reported around the state with activist HOA’s - this legislation was driven by Clearwater becoming aggressive in fining police vehicles throughout the city.
- The State of Florida is pursuing a hold on the voter registrations of former felons who haven’t paid financial restitution to victims. This effort is being made on back of last week’s ruling by a federal appeals court that felons could be registered until the case is heard in April.
- A complaint filed with the Florida, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission alleges Broward school employees destroyed owl mounds in North Lauderdale on Friday. The school had preserved the mounds at North Lauderdale Pre-K through 8 school for several years.It’s illegal to harass or damage the habitat of any protected species without permission from FWC.
- Florida’s Chief Resilience Officer Julia Nesheiwat has been appointed to the Department of Homeland Security by President Trump.Governor DeSantis hasn’t named a replacement yet. Florida’s Chief Resilience Officer is responsible for natural disaster readiness and response efforts from the state government.
