Coronavirus in Florida – March 20th update
Bottom Line: Thursday brought about 104 new diagnosed cases in Florida and the 9th death attributed to the virus. If you’re looking for a silver lining, the new case count was actually down from the previous day. In Governor DeSantis’s daily update, he indicated Florida had the shipment of swabs en route that had been ordered on March 9th - that would allow Florida to be able to make use of the 600,000 COIVD-19 tests the state already has on hand. Five new Florida counties had their first positive tests on Thursday including Martin.
The range in age for positive tests in our state now ranges from 6 to 89. 52% of all of Florida’s cases currently are in the tri-county area with Miami-Dade having passed Broward for the most cases in the state. Here’s the outlook in South Florida right now...
- Broward: 96
- Miami-Dade: 101
- Palm Beach: 29
In the early going of testing we’re seeing a really high rate of positive tests in Florida. To date, 20% of all test results for COVID-19 have come back positive. That’s dropped 5% over the past day - which is improved news. It remains much higher than the guidance provided by the Coronavirus Task Force. Nationally and internationally which have ranged from 1%-4%. There are 1,126 outstanding tests awaiting results, a smaller number than at this time yesterday...Still, expect these numbers to increase considerably over the next day and through the weekend.
