- Broward and Miami Dade are set to join the rest of Florida on Monday with phase one reopening as expected – however beaches aren’t set to reopen until after Labor Day in either county. Speaking of reopening...
- Governor DeSantis indicated most of Florida will soon be ready to enter phase two reopening. Monday will mark two weeks for the first 64 counties which reopened. Under the federal three phase guidelines, fourteen days of improving trends allows for next steps to be taken. It appears Governor DeSantis will make that announcement in Jacksonville today. Phase two would allow for bars and gyms to reopen at a minimum.
- Florida had 222,000 new unemployment claims filed last week. It was the fourth highest week of new claims since the pandemic/lockdowns began. This despite the phase one reopening in most of the state. It will take two additional weeks to see the impact of having the entire state in a phase of reopening.
- AG Ashley Moody said the state has now recovered over $500,000 in refunds for Floridians due to price gouging. Additionally, her office is currently working on 70 additional cases of potential price gouging. You may report price gouging at my floridalegal. com
- 14.5% of Floridians failed to pay their rent due the first week of May. That’s a near 5% increase from May of 2019. Governor DeSantis has issued a stay on evictions through the month of May.
