Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.
- Today is phase one reopening day in Broward and Miami-Dade as they join the rest of the state in phase one reopening. This includes the reopening of restaurants and retail with limited capacity. Notable exceptions are Hialeah, Miami,Miami Beach which are waiting until Wednesday to begin the reopening process. Beaches won’t reopen in either county until after Memorial Day. Speaking of beaches...Most of Palm Beach County’s beaches reopen today - with Palm Beach waiting until after Memorial Day.
- The rest of the state’s 64 counties, which began reopening two weeks ago, are entering what Governor DeSantis has called a “full” phase one reopening today. This includes increasing restaurants, retailers and other indoor venues allowing up to 50% capacity. Additionally, gyms are also now allowed to reopen.
- Another change taking effect today pertains to COVID-19 testing. Starting today pharmacists are allowed to administer tests should they have them available. You should check with your pharmacy in advance if you’re interested in being tested through your pharmacy.
- Governor DeSantis outlined the rules for Phase two reopening. Counties will be allowed to enter Phase two when there’s no evidence of an increase of COVID-19 cases based on phase one reopening activities. Based on current timelines, it would appear that Phase two reopening may take place June 1st if the state continues to make progress in reducing cases while reopening. Under phase two capacity would increase to 75% at businesses and entertainment venues would be able to reopen provided parties are restricted to 10 or fewer people.
- Monroe officials have set June 1st as the date non-residents will be allowed back in the Keys. They’ve been in phase one reopening for two weeks, however they’ve only been open to residents/owners during this time.
