- Governor DeSantis attributed the recent jump in COVID-19 cases to an increase in testing. The state has ramped its testing up from 30,000 daily tests two weeks ago to 38,000 by this past weekend. Over that same time positive tests have increased from an average of around 700 new cases per day to a recent average of around 1,200.
- Florida’s new Civics Curriculum Draft is ready for review at floridacivicsreview.org and the period for public comment is open through August 5th. The Florida Department of Education will host a webinar 3:30 Wednesday afternoon for interested Floridians. Registration on the website is required to participate.
- Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis announced a record $24 million in previously unclaimed property was returned to Floridians in May.Since the start of Florida’s fiscal year, a record $317 million has been paid out to Floridians. To search for unclaimed property, visit FlTreasureHunt.gov
- Cracker Barrel is adding craft beer, ciders and wine to the menus of 20 Florida locations. They held a test at a couple of locations in January and said it was surprisingly popular so the test will be expanded along with the menu.
- Miami-Dade's beaches, the last in the state to remain closed, will reopen Wednesday after the curfew was lifted for the county on Monday. The beaches were originally scheduled for reopening on the 1st but were kept closed due to protests and concerns over civil unrest.
