3 Dead, Officer Wounded in Port St Lucie Shooting

PORT ST. LUCIE -- Three people are dead after a shooting at a home on Morningside Drive in Port St. Lucie... a man, a teenage girl, and the suspected shooter.

St. Lucie Sheriff Ken Mascara says the suspect owned a dog that had been declared vicious at a hearing Monday morning, attended by the victims, who initiated the complaint.

"The case was granted for the victims in this case... they came home, and then the suspect armed himself and came to the victims' house, " Mascara said.

Police and deputies responded to the home on Morningside Boulevard around 12:30 Monday afternoon. Assistant police chief Richard Del Toro says an officer was shot in the arm but his wound is non life-threatening.

Del Toro says the male, possibly the girl's father, was found in the garage. Officers went in to rescue a 13-year-old girl but she died of her injuries. They located the suspected shooter in an upstairs room of the house. It's believed that 3-4 other family members escaped the house. No names have been released.
