- Today is the deadline for voter registrations, and reregistration's, to participate in Florida’s August 18th primaries. As a reminder Florida is a closed primary state so one must be registered in a party to participate in all party specific primary elections. Related...
- A settlement was reached by the state of Florida and interest groups looking to expand vote-by-mail options and deadlines for the 2020 election cycle. Under the settlement Florida’s Secretary of State Laurel Lee, is tasked with educating and encouraging county supervisors of elections about vote-by-mail options. Deadlines will not be extended nor will votes legally be harvested by third parties.
- On Saturday Governor DeSantis announced another shipment of remdisivir is coming to Florida after numerous South Florida hospitals reported shortages. The shipments are expected by Tuesday and should contain enough to treat up to six thousand people.
- The state’s first COVID-19 self-test site, part of a pilot program, opened in Orange County over the weekend. As part of the program, 500 people over the age of 5 with potential symptoms, are allowed to self-test using swabs. The results are being turned around in under three days. The program is part of an effort to increase testing and speed up results.
- The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the beheading of a Jesus statue at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in West Kendall. Church officials have handed over surveillance video to authorities of the attack which appears to have taken place last Tuesday.
