  • With fewer than 10,000 new COVID cases and a four-day decline in weekly average of cases, Governor DeSantis said Tuesday that he believes the state will soon contain the virus. He also indicated that despite peak hospitalization rates currently in the state, there’s enough capacity for those who need emergency care.   • Governor DeSantis tasked the Florida Department of Health with investigating the reasons behind only positive test results reported by certain labs starting in early July and allegations that people who’ve not been tested for COVID-19 were told they tested positive. Initial information suggests two potential culprits. Scammers impersonating healthcare officials providing false information and mixups from people registering for tests but leaving prior to having them conducted.
  • The FAA is using the period of lower air travel to begin to rework air traffic patterns. Florida’s current flight patterns have been in place for over thirty years and aren’t as efficient as they could be based on newer technology. The FAA said more direct routes are possible and intend to implement them starting with Miami International, in 2021. A period of public comment is currently open through 5pm Friday.
  • The recently approved plan by the state to expand Florida’s electric vehicle charging stations is about to commence. The plan will add electric charging stations along I-95, 75, 4 and will include a charging station at every service plaza on Florida’s Turnpike. Once completed, the state will have expanded the current network of charging stations by 50%.
