- The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled, as Florida’s Supreme Court had previously, that Florida’s felons must repay financial restitution to become eligible to register to vote. The ruling ends a near two-year legal battle which played out after the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition pledged to Florida’s Supreme Court that financial restitution would be a condition of felons gaining access to vote if the proposed Amendment were adopted. Once passed the Coalition immediately ignored their pledge to Florida’s high court and attempted to illegally register nearly 700,000 felons who hadn’t paid their debt to victims and society.
- Bars in 64 of Florida’s 67 counties will be allowed to reopen today at 50% capacity. Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties have opted not to allow bars to reopen (unless it’s a bar inside of a restaurant which is serving food).
- Florida’s daily average of COVID-19 cases continued to improve through the weekend. With just over 2,500 daily reported cases over the past week, Florida’s continuing to average the lowest level for new cases since June 18th.
- FPL’s emergency restoration crew has returned from Louisiana and Texas after having assisted in the power restoration effort after Hurricane Laura. 1,300 FPL workers worked 16 hours daily for two weeks to restore power.
